The end of WWII brought about an explosion in Los Angeles’ population and an unprecedented need for middle-class housing. In the San Fernando Valley and other parts of Los Angeles, Post War subdivision rapidly replaced agricultural land and their designs reflected mid-20th century ideals for home ownership and suburban living. Today the best examples still evoke a sense of time and place. They may feature important design concepts and landscape elements, reflect variations of the Ranch House design, and may be associated with ethnic or cultural groups.
