The end of WWII brought about an explosion in Los Angeles’ population and an unprecedented need for middle-class housing. In the San Fernando Valley and other parts of Los Angeles, Post War subdivision rapidly replaced agricultural land and their designs reflected mid-20th century ideals for home ownership and suburban living. Today the best examples still evoke a sense of time and place. They may feature important design concepts and landscape elements, reflect variations of the Ranch House design, and may be associated with ethnic or cultural groups.

Instructions: Use the map above to zoom in and click on the location of the place. Then provide the name and information about why the place is important. Or you can click on “What’s Your Idea” and submit the name and location of the place and information about why it is significant. We are particularly interested in places that do not already have historic designations.
